THE MAJOR TWO DIAMONDS

Welcome to The Major Two Diamonds Website

A bridge convention created to describe a 6-4 holding in the majors. Records indicate that even the experts often experience problems describing these hand types accurately. More so when the partnership hands do not dovetail well! Click on "BBO Hands" for some examples.

Incorporating The Major Two Diamonds convention into your partnership agreement, an opening bid of two diamonds promises the following hand type:

  • 6/4 holding in the majors
  • The six-card suit can be either spades or hearts
  • 10 – 15 HCP
  • The HCP count excludes possible wasted values in either of the minor suits i.e.
    • Singleton king
    • Doubleton queen
    • All jacks
  • When giving HCP count in the subsequent bidding, exclude all possible wasted values
  • HCP should be concentrated in both majors
  • You will need to sacrifice your Multi 2♦ opening bid. But just how effective is the Multi 2♦ opening anyway? To find out Click Here

The objective during the auction is to convey hand pattern in search of a fit. Users of the Multi 2♦ effectively squander their first bid. Likewise responder's first bid is also squandered as the majority of Multi's is a Weak 2 in either major. Responder bids accordingly.
